Hi. We are looking to purchase a house with an old firebird boiler located inside. We want to replace the boiler and move it outside, and introduce zoned heating. Has anyone got a rough cost for this? Approx four bed house.

Regarding position: Depends completely on where it is now and where you want to move it to. One case could involve the boiler sitting against an exterior wall. Running the pipes directly through that wall to a new boiler right outside would be cheap. Running the pipes from mid house to outside and on down to the end of the garden is another matter.

You could consider the attic as a position too.

Re: zoning. Again it depends. If your piping to downstairs zone and upstairs zone is accessible, then fitting valves to zone isn't a big deal. If, however, the boiler pipes pick up some rads downstairs before heading upstairs is a different matter - you'd need to run a pair of new pipes to serve the upstairs to the boiler.

You need to get someone out to have a look - the possible swing is price from what you've given by way of info is too little to even begin to guess.
