We have just put down a new solid wooden floor. Its birch so its a light colour and we would like to protect the floor with a varnish/sealer.

I know the floor will darken as it ages but we don't want to stain the wood-we would like to just seal/protect it.

    Any recommendations?

monocoat - sold at the panelling centre. Its not a varnish - so you retain the look and feel of the wood. Meant for floors but will do for kitchen countertops as well

As above or if you want something ultra hard, AC Lacquer

Excellent, sounds like what we are looking for.
