Came across the following 2003 BMW 525i on autotrader with just 13,000 miles for £6,495. Only problem is, it was registered in April 2019, "Kept in heated storage as part of a collection". I did a VRT check on it and because it was registered in 2019, the VRT would in the region of €16k.

Anybody in the UK looking for a mint E39, here is your chance!

Vrt on that wouldn't be 16k, they would get on to rosslare to put a value on it . Not the most desirable E39 , Auto 525 non sport , ex Japan or middle east . Low miles is all it has going for it and hard to know if thats genuine even.

Looking at the shape of the license plates, it most likely is.

It was registered in the UK in April 2019. If Revenue would value it as a 2003 model the VRT would be 720 Euro. Looking at the interior, I would agree with the mileage. There aren't many E39's going around with that spec, Sat Nav, DVD, Heated Memory Seats.

Look for the V5; the ad also states that next MoT is due 2020 which implies the DVLA did not regard it as new at time of purchase. The ad does not expressly state that it was not previously registered, say in Japan. The V5 should establish that and date of first registration anywhere is what matters.

Had 2 of them, drove one up to 2015. But the non sports models haven't aged half as well as the sports. Great cars.

I suspect the seller is been economical with the truth re registered in 2019.

The car was first registered in UK in 2019. It was probably registered elsewhere in 2003 as there is no way you'd be stupid enough to do 13 k since UK reg in 2019 on a car with delivery miles.

See how it has NI style plates - I don't know about you but if it was possible to put a new 2019 plate on this car and it were mine id have the "new" 2019 plate on it.

    As in xx19 xxx.

I bet if the car were to go for a non personalized plate or non NI plate it would be xx03 xxx or xx53 xxx as per a 2003 car .

It's a bad interior choice too - you want a light colour interior in E39s with leather .

I'd rather a genuine higher mileage car that's mint with verifiable history then this recipe for arseache.

If the mileage is truly genuine you couldn't really even use the car.

Great looking car. I'd love it for all the reasons others don't seem to love it. Auto, dark leather, not a sport. If somewhat genuine its gonna be snapped up soon. Drove one of those for 13 years although not quite as good a spec as that. Best car I ever had. With the weight and the distribution and the suspension she feels like you're moving a small very nimble tank around. When stopped at the lights or so you could end up thinking the engine had cut out, that 6 cylinder is this smooth.

E39s are such nice cars. That one has loads of spec but I'd prefer a manual and it would look so much better if it was a Sport.

It's surprising the DVLA allowed that to be registered given that it has kph clocks and the UK normally won't allow a car to get an MOT without the speedo being in miles. It looks like a Jap or Asian import to me, European spec cars never got that bootlid.

I fit was first registered in 2019 and never before than that’s what it is. It’s new.

I don’t think that’s the case though, I’ve often seen uk reg jap imports with the wrong year applied.
Can’t see how this could be registered as a new car as it wouldn’t meet emissions requirements.

    It's a 16 year 8 month old car (2003) registered in UK in April 2019. It'll have a 2003 number plate and it'll say it's a 2003 on the V5.
