Trying to research the paternal line of Edward "Bugsy" O'Hare back to Ireland. The airport in Chicago is named for him as he died a famous fighter pilot during WWII. His father, Edward Joseph O'Hare, was also an interesting character, he had been a solicitor and worked for Al Capone. He also died a violent death, murdered in 1939.

Edward Joseph O'Hare was born on September 5, 1893 in St. Louis to Patrick Joseph O'Hare and Cecelia Ellen Malloy O'Hare.

I have tried to find a birth record for Patrick Joseph but have failed thus far. His death Cert https://www.sos.mo.gov/images/archives/deathcerts/1922/1922_00020734.PDF
states that his birthplace was Illinois and that his father was born in Ireland but his name is unknown.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Hmm, both parents unknown by the person who registered the death.

Go back on the US censuses and see what he says himself.

Couple of ancestry trees claim him, but as always with ancestry trees, beware.

Is there a free site for US census records? Also if I was to find him on the census, it won't mention his father's name will it?
Have been trying familysearch but no luck

This post is a good intro to US ancestry research written by one of contributors.

Sometimes on the census they will say where in Ireland the parents came from and you might also find him living with his parents at some stage to get the info more directly.
Check also the state censuses for (presumably) Illinois.

Okay found him on the 1900 census

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DZK3-4MR?i=7&cc=1325221&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AM38G-8S2

Only new information is that his year of birth is 1855. Have being trying with that but found nothing... ...yet

The 1890 census was destroyed in a fire so try the 1895/1885 Illinois state censuses.

Ancestry does a free 2 week trial - supply card details but cancel within that timeframe to avoid a charge. Using different search engines might produce other results.

One family tree on Ancestry has Thomas Heher/Hare born Limerick about 1819 as father of Patrick Joseph Hare .... there is a baptism in Limerick for Thomas Hare, son of Patt Hare & Mary Spelacy, baptised in St Mary's RC, Limerick city on 26th Jan 1820 [St Mary's Parish Register https://ancstry.me/2kzoMeJ]; a 20 year old Thomas Hare, saddler emigrated to the New York arriving on the Scotland on 14th September 1840.... might be worth checking up.
