Removing DPF

Hi just considering removing my DPF, on my 2010 1.6 TDI Jetta, as it is giving me constant warning lights about the dpf. Got it cleaned before but it was only several months after and the light showed up again. Will my car pass the NCT if I remove/gut it?

Did you have the emissions fix?????.

More frequent DPF regens were associated with the fix on some cars .

VW I recall were willing to help if cars had issues with certain parts within 2 years of the update .

    So if......

    1) your car actually had the software update for dieselgate .

    2) and had the work done less then 2 years ago.

Then first port of call is VW imo.

My understanding is that the fix creates more soot and that means more DPF regen required.

Some folk whose driving habits the DPF could handle pre fix could thus run into issues post fix.

The trust building measure excludes DPF's. I assume because they can be consistently blocked through driving style despite the cars best efforts.

In all fairness, you see very few of them failing after the update versus other components.

It might be worth finding out why the DPF is blocking and soend money fixing the root cause.

My apologies - I didn't realise DPFs were excluded.

The DPF temp and pressure sensors in those aren't always trouble free but may not always produce a fault code.

Try find a decent mechanic in your area who can read the sensor values and understand them to see if they are contributing to the fault. Worn injectors could also be a contributing factor and that'd be popular in those.

What's your driving pattern like, would you go for a 50/60 minute drive at high revs once a week?

To answer your question, not at the moment, but surely in the future.

Don't remove it totally. Get a tidy gutting job done and some new firmware to suit. CO2 emissions will decrease.

How? I've looked into this and you are incorrect. You may fail in future if they add emissions test, but not as the test is now.

    MaD Reason for failure

    Emission Control System
(g). The emission control emission system fitted by the manufacturer is absent, incomplete, incorrectly assembled or obviously defective.

But how will they know if they don't test?

Eh, it’s easy to see if a dpf has been physically removed.

Yes it's a visual inspection. A bit of heat deflector material gets by that one and if they ask just say the dpf has been replaced.

I've actually spoken to an NCT tester about this privately, he sees it all the time and as they are not allowed tamper with your car they will pass it, once they don't see it.

A DPF car should have a spotlessly clean tailpipe too. Soot inside the tailpipe is a clear indicator of a failed or missing DPF.

So basically the advice to to use deception to avoid the failure. Hmm wouldn't like to be defending that in court.

I'm just saying things as they actually are, take from it what you wish.

It's something I considered once, I did my research on it and in the end decided against as it would be too difficult to reinstate if the NCT test changed and added emmisions tests. Others can make up their own mind may be willing to take the risk. In the end I got my dpf cleaned professionally and it's not caused me any issues since.
