Laptop which one ?

    Sorry if this has been done to death but I'm taking an ou course as a mature student and need a computer ( preferably laptop).
    The course I'm doing is data analysis with modules ,
    1/ Preparing for Essential mathematics 1 (MST124) and
    2/ Introduction to computing and IT ( TM 111 )
    Any advice on a lap top or even which OS I should go for.? It has to be at least Windows 7 or higher or the equivalent.
    As I hope this will be a fairly long term project I wont mind going that bit extra to get the right one.
    It will be primarily for the college course but also I'll probably use it for some media stuff streaming movies to watch on tv etc.plus printer/ scanner .cameras and mic for classes etc
