Anyone out there driving a 1.6 diesel X-Trail?

Just wondering if its sluggish considering its a 7 seater and 1.6 engine?

My brother bought a 3 year old model and had it for a year. Gave nothing but bother to him. Electrical issues and ball joints had to be looked at/replaced. I've the original Qashqai+2, the predecessor of the x-trail and it too is a piece of unreliable crap. Can't afford to get rid of it but if I could, wouldn't touch Nissan again.

Or maybe the brother and I were just unlucky?????

While not the same car, I have the 2.0l petrol and it’s a fairly heavy car, not so nippy off the line but grand for overtaking, getting into a gap. 3 years old and not a bother on it. Oh, the 2 rear seats will fit 2 small children reasonable comfortably, 2 adults, a very tight squeeze, you wouldn’t want to be going far.

Cousin had a 181 X-Trail and is currently mid legal dispute with Nissan. After numerous issues cropped up in the first 6 months, it failed catastrophically resulting in a pretty significant crash with her and the kids ending up in the car on it's roof.

Bloody hell, hope all were ok.

The engine in my Qashqai blew up after two years due to a temperature sensor in the oil system not opening. Took 2 months of fighting with Nissan to have it replaced under warranty. Left front brake caliper failed suddenly one day causing car to swerve violently. Multiple other issues too numerous to go into.

Just to be clear, this car was bought from a Nissan main dealer and serviced by them at the service intervals.

They’re a bit of a rocket for a 1.6 diesel. They shred the front tyres in 3rd

Sounds like Nissan have completely shredded their once strong reputation for reliability too...

Meh, they’re selling cars people want again and that’s what counts.
They were never near Toyota in reliability terms anyway.

Have a 161 X Trail 1.6D from new, 7 seater, find it quite lively, never had a problem with it, very happy with it and won’t be changing it anytime soon.
Our 3rd Nissan and couldn’t fault them personally speaking.

While not as good as Toyota - Roadhigh is correct to say that Nissan DID have a strong reputation for reliability.

In the K10 Micra and T12/T72 Bluebird era they werent even that far off Toyota either - imo.

I presume this is a reference to a crazy claim by another poster at some stage?

No. I had one as a rental. There’s serious torque, and because it was 2wd it had no grip and it torque steered like a mad thing. Even though it was on new Yokohama’s it would spin in 3rd coming out of roundabouts.
I was shocked to see it was a 1.6 - it drove like a 2.0 at least.

Really? That surprises me no end. Although at first I thought you were praising it now it seems as if its down to a few deficiencies it has

It’s a pig of a yoke to drive if you push it on, I’d imagine the optional AWD would make a decent enough car out of it.
I had to check the tyres because I thought they must be Triangles the amount of wheel spinning.
Now in paper, it’s not a quick car, but there’s a big lump of torque (320nm) that kicks in suddenly.
