New Gear Set - Wheel Not Spinning

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of building an electric bike. In order to do so I had to replace the rear gear set (to a screw on type set).
Now the rear wheel doesn't seem to spin - can someone advise if this is setup correctly - or is the lock ring on backwards?

I've installed it the way I received it straight out of the box. If I have to rotate it it means getting a tool to swap it around.
Everything is new so it could just need to be worn in (maybe?).

Also, I have removed the disc brake to ensure that wasn't catching.

hard to tell from that photo - but is the frame fouling against the lock ring on the cassette?

    Yes that's right.

i reckon you're missing a spacer or a washer - the axle shouldn't be sitting in the dropouts like that. the flattened sides of the cone are not there so it can slide that way into the dropouts of the frame in that way, they're there to allow them to be adjusted with a spanner.

you can see in that link, on the left hand side in the pic - the large spacer sits on the inside when the wheel is dropped into the frame, and won't fit into the dropout.

Ye cheers, I'll pick up a few washers and give that a go.

Not liking the look of the gap between the cassette and axle highlighted below. Looks like a forced mismatch between a splined 9 speed cassette and a screw on freewheel. Can you post a pic of the component you took off?

Ye you're right, they were different gear types

9 speed screw on freewheel might work but if you're new to this I'd tend to take it to the local bike shop or talk to a bike mechanic.

Thanks for all the advice, always appreciated.
I slipped a washer behind the toothed (?) washer and she spins perfectly now.

Should be up and running this weekend :)
