How do you think original thoughts?

Feel like any opinion I have is just gleaned from others. Any natural opinion I have, it's just a feeling or a hunch and not able to elaborate on it. Do we ever really think originally? The weirdest is when you read something and you never thought of something and you're like, wait that's me, like someone in one thread on here spoke about how most news stories are bollox and now I can't help but think that the only reason one should stay on top of current affairs/news, is to be able to converse, not for any real reason.

Original thinking comes from thinking outside the box while drawing on your accrued knowledge, observations and experience of the subject or process. It's an organic process and is rarely achieved by trying to force it.

I really like that Boards moderator

There's an original thought no one has ever had before.

    Very few thoughts are original.
Most are incremental improvements based on others.

Micro-dosing on LSD or the like might help some creativity.

I reckon AI will actually be a lot more creative when it gets going.
It could "brute force" a load of disparate ideas and decide which ones might be viable.

    Not true.

    Some are really good.

Others are awful poor in that they make decisions that they think the groupthink wants, rather than what they feel themselves.

Actually thoughts are separate from opinions.

An awful lot of "opinions" are forced on us by media, liberals, peer pressure, extremists, lobbyists, forum moderators banning different opinions., corporate entities who use minorities for marketing needs etc...

On balance... a lot of people would likely think that immigrants are a bad idea until we focus on our own native population first.
But people are labelled racist for that idea.

The media is a propaganda machine to control or influence the nation as best it can. Look at the Irish Water propaganda machine to try to turn people against "wasters" and encourage us to tax them. Divide and conquer.

Being well-read and well-informed is a huge help.

You learn all the rules and you learn all the reasons for the rules.
Then you can understand when the rules don’t apply.

You get a job in a Swiss patent office and you spend your time between patent appraisals doing thought experiments.

The Greeks probably have thought of it already.
