Sparky 2.0: The return of the eGolf

So after a number of month trying to drive a very very bad auto Focus the day finally arrived when VW called. The replacement for Sparky had arrived and Sparky 2.0 was ready to be picked up.

As most of the regulars on here might be aware I am a small bit of a fan of the original eGolf and I have it ranked as one of the best cars I ever hard...

Well now I must admit it has dropped a little bit down the pecking order. Sparky 2.0 is a very very nice car. The extra range is great of course. The extra gadgets is a must for me. I love the digital display. The media centre is still great and actually I don't use carplay at all.

I do think Sparky 1 was a little bit crazier...wheel spin is not as regular.

Now to get a free weekend and bring her out for a long spin.....

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Well wear!

eGolf is an excellent car and you won't be as restricted in range as with your old one.

To be fair to the old one I knew the range and I never really had an issue, one time I got stuck on M50 and it was snowing etc and I had to fly over to airport to top up....that was it in 3 years....not bad

Conservative driving has gone out the window :-) I have so much range now I don't know what to do with it

I was flying around all day Saturday, even doing extra trips and still just went below half full by end of day....

This weekend might be the trek to parents which will be a good test. Sparky 1 would just get to location with 5km or so....

You must really like the egolf, its a nice car but I can't see that many being sold with the new vw range just around the corner

At that right price, i'd buy one

Drove one recently and as much as I hate VW, it's a much nicer drive than the Leaf40 or Ioniq, I was impressed.

I'll see what the eCorsa and e208 are like price wise ( need to €30,000 or less ) and if not will get eGolf from UK, 191 for €25,000 there

How much you paid Shefwedfan or is it company car?

It meets the requirements I have perfectly.

I had even looked at the Nissan Leaf 2. Just couldn't do it. Plus the fact it was not using CCS was a huge draw back for me. If I do plan on taking the car long distance I will be using Ionity.

Yes ID is around the cornor but 3 years with the same car is a long time and I don't think I could stick around for another 12-15 months.

Only issue is I swapped my car and now Misses wants her's swapped as well :P

Yeah, I'd see VW is much more premium than leaf or Ioniq (and ecorsa and e208 for that matter)

God no, couldnt have gotten a leaf2! It's a nice car, the egolf, lovely premium feel,. I test drove one before getting my Ioniq and it really felt a nice place to be. VAG do that very well.

No new prices yet, I wouldn't expect them anytime soon in Ireland. Some rumblings in UK/Germany but I haven't seen a price drop.

I didn't go the exec model and went with standard....lets just say the spec might be a little bit higher than it should be :-)

The drop is already in Germany, €4k and £2,765 lower in the UK

    Welcome to the v2 club.

If you find out a way to keep the screen turned off without having to go into the settings every time let me know. ( I think it’s nice turning it off for a long night drive home ) turns back on of course with the jester control anyway.

Al Hayes in Portumna has one in the showroom for sale.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Congrats on the new motor Shefwedfan (synchronous AC permanent magnet motor that is tongue.png). We have the 35 kwh version almost 2 years with 78K km's on the clock, its been a great car so far. Only issue was a line of dead pixels on the centre screen-a known issue on all 7.5 gen Golfs-changed under warranty. The digital binnacle is excellent. Hope you got the heated seats, they are great in the winter.

Even with that drop, are they attractive?

I know below are not direct rivals, but he get the point

VW e-UP for €12,000 less has 60km more range

208e has 50% more range and the same price

e-Niro almost double the range and €5000 more

Time has moved on I think

191 used models are under €25,000 in UK now

Good for VW though, they are sticking to word on pushing EVs

Putting pressure on Nissan Leaf40 etc to drop price now

    Shef

Why did you not consider the e-Niro?

Practically same price as a eGolf and twice the range, much quicker
