    Hi folks,

Was looking at a 191 Tiguan today. 12k km on it. Auto petrol 1.5 dsg with technology pack. What kind of discount would you expect off new?

I think new would be about 41?
    Thanks,
    Mick

Is it s demo or an ex rental? 12kkm is a lot of test drives.

Its a demo well that's what dealer says.. I'd imagine early 191 reg.. it's just been back from a week on loan... I haven't checked to much into it as waiting to see what they might offer me for my car... I would have thought it wouldn't be unrealistic to get 6k off as it is quite high demo mileage?

They don't normally let demos rack up 12k km and I think they usually sell them after 3 months. Dealer will nearly always suggest ex rentals are ex demos as people run away when they hear it was a rental. I'd imagine if it's been sold by a main VW dealer then I'd say the discount won't be huge. Are you set on the Tiguan?

Did you see the Seat Ateca, same running gear as the Tiguan but imo a better looking car:

A bit low for an ex rental? This is normally the time of year the rentals come back but I'd say either one staff had it or maybe someone they sponsored

There are different term rentals, some go on later than others.

Dealers selling rentals as ‘fleet’ or ‘demo’ cars is nearly commonplace unfortunately.

So how would I confirm if it was a rental? By rental you mean like Enterprise etc? They have to disclose if I ask? I get the feeling it may have been driven by one of the sales guys as his daily driver and then given on extended tests or loans... He said it had been out on loan all last week ..maybe while someone had their car in for something?

Anyhow I'm pretty sure the numbers won't add up for me so won't be a runner. If you did get a 5k discount would it be worth considering? While it's slightly high mileage with it being an auto the gears won't have been an issue or clutch and the engine will have been run in. If the same car can be bought new on a lower pcp interest rate it wouldn't make sense unless the discount is good

Yeah the likes of Budget/Avis/Hertz etc. a Tiguan DSG is a very unlikely courtesy car, and you wouldn’t hold onto a demo or salesman’s car this long, especially with a reg number change in the middle.
Now, if you’re getting €5k off it might make sense, but my biggest concern is the fact that it’s auto and a rental, as these usually attract the worst drivers in my experience.

The rental company would be on the reg cert?

No, it would be registered to the dealer usually.

ok im a bit confused by this.. so there's a practice of main dealers renting or selling cars to rental companies, keeping them registered in their own names and then buying them back from the rental company to sell on?

Some dealer do it like that, yeah.

I dont think it'd be too unusual for a sales demo to have 12k on it on the other hand. Our salesmen keep their demo for the full 6 month reg period, they try to avoid selling the cars from under one another, some of the lads living a bit away will have no bother racking up 10-15k on them. That'd be the difference between a salesmanship demo and a showroom demo I suppose.

I'm not saying it's not an ex-rental though. I'd be looking for traces of stickers on the left side of the dash panel where the "tolls and fines" sticker would be, or the bottom right of the windscreen where the "drive on the left" sticker goes, or on the fuel door where it'd be marked petrol or diesel. To be fair you'd nearly know by the reg number or the way the reg plate is hung.

A 1.5 petrol DSG Tiguan is very very saleable so I wouldn't expect to be having the haggle of my life over it, even given it's mileage.
