Toyota Auris hybrid 1.8L BHP confusion (CVT vs e-CVT)

    Hello,

I am looking at buying a Toyota Auris 1.8 VVT-h Excel.
I am confused by the break horse power available.

Some are listed with 98BHP and others are 134BHP.
The only difference seems to be the e-CVT option. I read about
Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission but i don't see how
that could effect BHP seeing as it is a newer technology over (CVT)

    example listings.

    Toyota Auris 1.8 VVT-h Excel e-CVT HSD 5dr
    2014 (64 reg) Hatchback 93,569 miles 1.8L 98bhp Automatic Hybrid – Petrol/Electric

    Toyota Auris 1.8 VVT-h Excel CVT (s/s) 5dr
    2018 (68 reg) Hatchback 6,544 miles 1.8L 134bhp Automatic Hybrid – Petrol/Electric

Anyone know what the difference is?

    Thanks

The hybrids are all 134 AFAIK, the 98 is for the engine in its own.

I though the same thing initially but the options in the revenue VRT calculator seems to suggest they are different models.

    engine size 1797 options
    <option value="47887927">EXCEL VVT-I CVT 98BHP 5DR AUTO</option>
    <option value="46687927">ICON HYBRID E-CVT TSS 5DR AUTO</option>

    <option value="41287927">VVTI HSD ICON PLUS E-CVT 5DR A</option>

    engine size 1798

You might be right but almost all ad's on autotrader have 98bhp listed when
e-CVT is in the title. If its just CVT, its 134. They must be different.

They’re all the same, there is no Auris hybrid that is actually 98bhp. The electric motor adds to that figure to give a combined 134bhp.

Were the 1.8 VVTi of nearly 20 years ago not putting out about 130bhp?

Yes they were, and the non hybrid Auris was over 140bhp - but the 1.8 in the Auris/Prius uses that same engine with different setup variable valve timing to effectively turn it into an Atkinson cycle engine, this makes it more efficient but less powerful. The electric motor tops up the power.

There were no different power outputs for the Auris Hybrid, they were all the same. The listings are just different, some are just listing the petrol engine output while others list the combination of the petrol engine and electric motor output.
