Damaged bodywork under doors - worth fixing?

    The missus steered the car (2011 VW Touran) over a metal bollard, making a long dent and scraping off some paint in the part of the bodywork below the the driver and passenger doors. I'm wondering whether it is worth fixing and what the best way is. Pics attached.

    Main concern is that it will allow rust to form, so I'm thinking of finding some suitable paint and at least fixing that up. I'm assuming that is DIY-able and not a specialist job? Also there is one area where it cracked and made a short tear, was thinking maybe fill that first with a little Tec7 or something?

    Is it necessary to fix the dent itself too, e.g. could that fail an NCT? If so I assume I'd need a panel beater, but it feels like an awkward area to fix so I have no idea how possible or expensive that could be. It doesn't feel worthwhile spending big money to fix.

    Thanks

    You definitely need to do something about it or it will rust.
    It will need more than just a lick of paint. Fixing the dents, sanding, priming etc

    I once had a similar incident and a bodyshop sorted it for me for less than 200 so before you buy the stuff needed, check with some local shops.

    Thanks biko. If we could sort it for 200 we'd be happy.

    Anyone have recommendations for a bodyshop in south Dublin?

    I highly doubt you'll get that fixed for anything near €200, there's a bad crease along the top and the metal is split at one point.

    I would guess €800-1000 to repair it.

    Only the bodyshop will know for sure how much.
    I am moving this thread to main forum as it's not DIY any more.
    Lot of Dubs there can give you recommendations.

    Can't give a direct comparison. Last car failed the NCT on corrosion on and under the door sill on one side. Biggish body repair shop thought about 800-1200 on a complete change depending. Might have got it cheaper elsewhere. That was an 08 Peugeot. Surely a much cheaper job for you though if they can patch it up.

    That's a fair bit of damage done there and that's only from what we can see. There could be more damage underneath that the photos don't show. I'd doubt you will get that sorted properly for anywhere near €200.

    Add a zero on the end is more accurate imho

    Since no-one have been able to give you a recommendation yet OP I searched old posts and came up with previous recommendations.
    Google contact details. Call into them for prices.
    * Carcraft
    * Crofton Motors in Kimmage
    * Colley Louis Motors

    Do let us know who you went with and how much they charged you.

    Thanks all. Will try some shops during the week. Good to know its not likely to be a simple fix anyway :(

    I'd be expecting a bill in the region of 1k plus VAT

    Trim tech in Swords are brilliant. I know not near you but they do specialise in this area.

    I've no idea about cost but mine was about 400 good few years ago to fix panel door.

    Looks like lot more work with your car though.

    You thinking of changing the car in the near future or keeping it?

    I had the attached dent repaired for €317.80 in December last year. Similar location to yours. Deeper than, but not as long as, yours.

    Can recommend Drivers in Kilmacanogue, very reasonable, and will negotiate on price.
