    Hi All

I'm after a cheap run around for the school runs etc.

It will be doing very little mileage every year.

I was thinking initially about a Yaris, but they seem to be fetching strong money for what they are.

    I have found a local car – Corolla 2005 saloon 1.4 for €750 with a new test.

Is there anything particular issue with that model I should look out for . Car has 300k km but seems well looked after.

Does it have a timing chain or belt?

    Thanks

Great car just look for any rust under body etc...

    They will be reliable enough.

These have a timing chain. They’re generally very reliable but check all electric things work, check for rattly inlet manifold, whining gearbox.

They have a timing chain that should last the lifetime of the car with regular servicing. You would only change it if it were making a rattle noise. Gearbox bearings can fail on those model Corollas so if it's notchy or whining then the bearing could be on it's way out. Other than that they are a solid dependable car so it's hard to go wrong with one for €750.
