Ford Fiesta 2005 noise and fuel

    Hi all,

    I’ve a 2005 Ford Fiesta.

The last month or so a full tank of petrol is only getting me 160-200kms max out of the tank.

There’s a gushing (water sound) when I start the engine each time, sounds like it’s coming from the behind the glovebox.

It was serviced last year but i seem to be spending an awful lot on fuel and doesn’t last at all.

Anyone any advice or had similar issues?

    Thanks in advance

Have you checked coolant level in bottle is it low?
Sounds like a possible lambda issue if using more fuel, how is the car driving sluggish and not as fast as it used to be.
Any leaks or bad smells from car to show petrol issue.

    Thanks for the reply.

I checked Coolant levels and they are all ok.

No noted leaks from what I can see but it’s going through petrol like I don’t know what! It’s a little sluggish alright, but nothing major.

I’m considering looking at the finances and see if I can change the car as I’m spending a small fortune of petrol.

It only got a full nct last month so that’s valid for another year and has new tyre etc so I wasn’t planing on getting a new car but may have to consider it now

Was the car running badly before or after the test as i think diagnostics will need to be done.

It was running ok up to the test, just been getting worse and worse for fuel since and now it’s just not running right at all fuel wise and that noise.

Done more research on the noise and same answer comes back low coolant level, try checking it when hot LOOK at the level then but only top up when cold as rubber pipes expand when hot and level may drop.
When the car is idling with bonnet up does engine jerk backwards and forwards that might assume a missfire and running on 3 cyls.
Plugs leads and coils had issues on these models hence why i mentioned diagnostics.
Unsure if the focus engine is in the fiesta as that suffered from a hissing breather pipe under plastic manifold and revs on tickover are higher due to intake of air.Have car run at tick over and listen around inlet manifold.
