    Hi folks

Have been thinking about applying for a job in civil service and looking at general Administrative jobs however as a lot of the positions seem to require a third level degree, any recommendations on a third level degree which would be good to aquire that would fit with applying for admin jobs in Civil Service?

Nearly all jobs in the civil service are normal admin duties and office work. The specific "Administrative Officer" role is just a title. Keep an eye out for Clerical Officer competitions. It's entry level- no degree required.

Thanks for the reply, for grades higher up the chain would you recommend a solid third level degree to have under the belt to increase chances of getting a higher level job, was thinking something broad like project management but not sure really

Just get in. Get unionized. They will pay for the degree.

The institute of public administration is a good starting point for relevant courses like public management - a degree in that, or working towards one would be worth a good few marks in any higher level civil service interview

Being in the union will have no bearing on the employer paying for your degree.
