Bones,

Just wondering if people with dogs still ask the Butcher for bones for the dog? I have 2 although one has no teeth [11 years old] I ask most times but am given very little, went in today to a butcher and he asked how many dogs i had told him and he gave me 2 neither was the size of a lamb chop. Why are the butcher's so mean with the bones? does anyone else find this?

Wrong butcher. Mine always gave me great big marrow bones for the dog.

A lot of 'butchers' these days aren't really doing any butchering, they are just selling meat, so don't have large bones going spare.

Only to a degree. The cause is excess calcium, usually from an all raw food diet including bones. A chew bone won't cause it.

Is it a butcher's shop or just a meat counter? Any butcher has a mass of bones they'd give you.

As odyssey06 said a lot of "butchers" now are just unpackaging meat, displaying it and selling it.

By definition, that's not a butcher's

That's a victualler's. Or a meat counter.

Every Butcher's in the town here would have bones. Only the stall or counter in the supermarket wouldn't.

You should be given powers to police the abuse of the term!
In Dublin theres a lot of fake butchers who as you say should be called sth else.

our Local butcher always gives me bones, shanks, ribs, wings whatever for the pooches but I also get a few every other day when passing for soups, stocks, stews & chili.

He also sharpens my knives for me at no charge.
