Stage 4 finish in Alicante, looks like a day for the sprinters and theres only a 2 second lead for the red jersey so could be interesting from an Irish standpoint

    Irish rider number 2 today

I wonder have they ever used the climb up to the castle for racing in Alicante? My legs seem to recall it being reasonably grippy 10% maybe?

De Gendt trying to getaway with 40km left to go.

Gaviria out the back, and doesn’t look like he’ll make it back.

Jeez he'd plenty of time to sit up and celebrate :D

At least a full bike length of a gap.

edit: maybe 2 lengths from the side profile.

Seeing the over head he was pulling away from them big time. Fastest man there by some stretch.

EDIT: That should see him in the points jersey no???? So two Irish men in jerseys.

Made it look very easy...how hasn't he been signed up yet?

I'm convinced he his staying at Bora, hebis just looking for a commitment on the TDF. As I've said before I have a gut that Sagan will pass on the tour next year.

A GT stage win in the National Jersey. That’s makes the season for me.

Was there talk of him going to DQS next year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

Sam has no contract for next year yet but this should seal it
I'd say its riding the Tour and the pay are the issues
I hope he goes where there is a team more dedicated to him than Bora ....I think he can win big at the Tour and then go on the classics

BTW Nico has no contract signed yet for next year ..

Sam equal on points with Quintana but in second place, Nairo having a better finish today compared to Sam yesterday. (Roche third)

I'll bet that you're right and for a number of reasons

    1) Despite PL's statement some time back he still has not signed
    2) He is riding the vuelta. This bucks the trend a little of riders leaving not getting to do grand tours
    3) Sagan has broken the green jersey record
    4) He seems to get on well with and like the team

Pt 4 is massive, he trusts this team massively and they have delivered him big wins this year, why would he leave that if he can get a decent race programme?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

But he cant get a decent race programme at Bora...that is the problem

He needs to be top banana at the Tour ...with Ackerman & Sagan that is not going to happen

Another day for the sprinters tomorrow so Sam hopefully should get the points jersey

The weather could be a major factor tomorrow. Thunderstorms expected in the Valencia region, we know Sam can handle the rain(remember the Giro win into Imola last year) but it could be carnage out there tomorrow if predicted rainfall levels materialise

Sam on the Breakaway when asked if Sean was a hero of his when he was younger.

He said he looked more towards Boonen and McEwan and wouldn't have been aware of the extent of Kelly's palmares and only knew of the sports centre in Carrick

No doubt with his tongue firmly in his cheek.

He should go where he's guaranteed the Tour and more money.

Bora have given him a great career and he's more than repaid them but this year I think they treated him like sh*t.

He knew Sagan was getting the Tour and was obviously hoping he'd get the Giro, especially after last year's success there, but was cast aside.

If he goes to the likes of Quickstep and brings Archbold he'll be very successful.

*Apologies - I thought I was posting in the Sam Bennett thread!

Bennett said it on the breakaway on Eurosport. They were asking who his influences were growing up and of course Kelly's name got chucked in

That was caused by hailstones according to the news.

I don’t think they have treated him badly, as Cillian Kelly pointed out they have managed it really well, sent a sprinter to the giro, won multiple stages, sent Sagan to the tour, won a stage and points jersey, sent Bennett to the Vuelta and has won a stage. It’s also the most successful season of his career with the potential for more GT stage wins to come yet.

With regards to his contract, maybe Sam is holding off on signing anything because he knows if he performs here in the Vuelta he can get an even better deal

Well Boraare treatign himbadly now according to this

    Orla Chennaoui
@SportsOrla It would appear all is not well between Sam Bennett and Bora. Hearing whispers of a case ongoing with Bora trying to force the Irishman to stay, despite no contract having been signed for next year. Bennett wants to leave but unable to sign elsewhere until it’s resolved.

Sh1t, that's bad if true (no smoke without fire etc...) - he is doing brilliantly to win so often recently with this hanging around in the background. I guess that what he pays an agent to take care of for him.

I think he has the most wins this season as well with 12
