    Hi there.

Looking for a bit of help in deciding what to go for here. So I have the SEAI grant approved, so that gives me €600 to work with.
Ive a few options, as i've contacted a number of different sellers in UK and Ireland.

So these are the models and prices I have found:
    ABL eMH1 3.6kW €750 (fitted with esb)
    Zappi €700 +fitting (€850)
    EO Mini 7.2kw €600 +fitting (€750)
    Rolec 7.2kw €420 +fitting (€570)

I like the sound of the Rolec because it will be effectively free and is untethered which will mean I will have a cable to charge on street also, but Ive read that it has very little features.
Are there other options on the market I should be looking at?
Im charging a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander.

    Thanks

For future proofing don't go near any 3.6 charging option

Ok, sound. I'm guessing I should just go with the Rolec 7kw to save myself money? I'm not planning on putting solar panels in as its a rented property.
    Thanks for the reply.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I have that same ABL unit. It is actually capable of running 7.2kW, but you need to hook it up to a laptop and program it. I did it myself. There are threads about it here. It's an excellent unit, have it 2.5 years now, zero issues. If you browse this forum you will find numerous issues with Zappi and Rolec chargers.

If you can get Electric Ireland to fit it using 6mm2 cabling and a 40A RCBO and you can do the programming yourself, it is a very sweet deal for €750 - €600 subsidy = €150 fitted. Or just leave it at 3.6kW - are you on night rate electricity and what EV do you have?

Talk to your landlord, he might come up with the €150 you are short if you tell him he can keep the charger when you leave.

That muppet ripping you off for €850 to install the Zappi should really be named and shamed.

Isn't the figure in brackets the total, assuming 150 euro fitting charge? At least that's the way I read it, the number in brackts is 150 higher than the charger cost in all the cases.

150 for fitting is a bargain.

OP: If you don't need anything fancy, then the Rolec would be fine. I think the problems referred to were with the older model.
Also, you might consider a tethered unit, the advantage of not having to fish a cable out of the boot every time you want to charge at home is compelling.
With my tethered Zappi, I can plug in the car in about 10 seconds, it would be probably be a minute with untethered charger (in the rain usually!)

I went Rolec for 2 reasons.
    1. I don't have any solar or electric shower in the house, so I didn't need anything fancier.
    2. My car is parked just more than 5 meters away from the chargers location, so I either need a tethered with 8 meter cable, or untethered and I buy a cable.

Since tethered 8 meter doesn't exist, and 8 meters is lot of cable to hang on the side of the wall, I went rolec and bought an 8 meter coiled cable* for ~€200.

*8 meter coiled is not a usable 8 meters of cable. The amount of tension on the car charger or the charging unit itself when stretched to 6 meters is probably ok, but anything more and i'd be getting worried. Also, on rainy mornings, forget about drying it off with a towel. In retrospect, I should of bought a straight 8 meter cable.

Didn't you still manage to blow your main fuse a couple of weeks ago? :P

FYI, Zappi were doing an 8 metre tethered charger when I ordered my 5 metre one, maybe it's not something they carried over tho the newer models though.

Where do you buy Rolec chargers with the soalr - grid fucntions ?

Does Garo have the solar diverter functionality ?

    Thanks

Yup. I turned on all the things!. Now I charge at night, and the sparks that was over mentioned my main fuse setup was pretty old, and could do with updating. I must give him a call actually.
