Peugeot - warning: engine fault repair needed

    Hi all,

I tried to start my Peugeot 3008 2013 this morning, and after putting the ignition on, I heard a beep and "Warning engine fault repair needed' message was displayed in the screen. I started the engine, the message was gone and was not visible in the "Diagnosis" section which displays all the faults. There was also no warning light (engine management light etc) on the dashboard. I turned off the car and on again and didn't get any warning message and all dashboard lights were off (they all turn on normally on ignition).

Is this common with Peugeot cars? It appears that the message was initially triggered by mistake as it doesn't show anymore and the car is running fine.

    Any thoughts?

That could be a generic message so impossible here to tell what it was. You would need to get the fault scanned by someone with Peugeot compatible diagnostic computer equipment.

I was actually asking about the fact that the warning is now gone and there were no engine management light on, and wanted to know if this is something that happens often in Peugeot cars.

For a fault code to appear then a fault would have been logged on the car's ECU. The fact it cleared itself could mean the fault corrected itself and is gone, could be any number of reasons for it appearing first time including a false alarm or intermittent problem. I'd imagine that if the underlying problem related to it is still there then the message will return.

I drove the car for about 100km yesterday and there was no warning message in the car's screen and the engine management light was off. I'm assuming that this was just a glitch that will hopefully not happen again.

I got this error with my '11 5008 when the battery was in need of replacing

If it's the original battery and it's on the way out, it could cause sporadic issues especially during cold starts.

Did this error come and go or was it on all the time?

My mechanic sorted it about a year ago without changing the battery but it came back last week and it's booked in for Tuesday to replace it.

There could be any number of things wrong, from a low battery to much more expensive work. Get the car scanned by a reputable garage to find out the underlying cause.
