Hey Guys im just looking for some advice on my Enigma2 Technomate Receiver

    Spec as follows
    TM-2T OE
    - Fully MPEG-2, MPEG-4 & H.264 compliant
    - DVB-S & DVB-S2 complaint
    - 2 x HD satellite (DVB-S/S2) tuners
    - 405 MHz Broadcom Dual Core MIPS processor
    - 1024 MB NAND Flash, 8 MB NOR Flash, 384 MB RAM
    - 500GB SATA3 Internal HDD
    - PVR recording, and multimedia playback via USB or SATA storage devices
    - Linux Open embedded
    - Output resolution: Full HD 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i & 3D Ready*
    - 1 x Smartcard reader
    - HDMI output
    - Dolby Digital Plus compliant via optical S/PDIF output
    - 3 x USB 2.0 ports (1 x front and 2 x rear)
    - Ethernet port

I have been over on foreign Satellite board as this is geared to 9e/10e, 13e, 16e, 19.2e and 23.5e

Iv been very happy with the receiver prior to upgrading my dish to a 1meter and adding the extra birds - But now memory seems to be incredibly problematic - Distributions tried include OPENATV6.1 and OPENVIX (latest for that model)

Memory seems to drop rapidly as extra satellites/channels are added and under full load its constantly 98-99% full - my efforts to improve this have failed but il outline them below for consideration in case im close to a fix - really appreciate your help

Cacheflush - tried various settings including increasing un cached ram to 2mb - also set it to clean dirty cache, and then off again - doesnt seem to make a difference, and even at startup its at 98%

Swap File - decided to create one on the USB Key as i assume it would be faster for accessing - tried creating a 256mb file after formatting the key to ext4 - successfully created the file and active on startup - trouble is its not being used for more than 1-2mb at a time - while the boxes internal memory is dropping to 1-2mb free

Removed unused Plugins - yea i decided to basically remove stuff that i dont use or that serves no purpose for me - these include things like crossepg - dont use it for foreign satellites - it works will on my amiko but of no use for the sats im picking up - IMDB SEARCH - never use it no point - EPG Importer - same - HDMI CEC - again no point - etc etc - i imagined this would free up a lot of ram - seems to have made no difference what so ever

EPG SETTINGS - set to store on the USB Key to keep it off the hard drive and avoid internal memory

So basically im scratching my head cause its an old box, but a really good one which i have enjoyed using - usually very stable - few if any crashes - supposed to have 384mb RAM but usually reads as 137mb- this seems common for these type of set ups - and its a dual core mips which seems ok

So yea if anyone has any tips for sorting this id really appreciate it - done my homework on this one and tried everything i could think of!

EDIT - should also point out i have tried several distros and versions but the same results for all :)

Sic semper tyrannis - thus always to Tyrants

    My 2 cents :-

I found cacheflush used as much as it cleared. Net gain = 0 Then again it's years since I tried/needed it. On paper great idea, in practice 'meh'.

CrossEPG can be useful for foreign sats using the Rytec downloader. OK most German channels will populate the EPG for upto 28 days if you tune them in, but I find crossEPG handy for autotimers if I haven't viewed a German channel for a while. It is also useful for Polish and Spanish channels.
Replace the HDD with an SSD and ditch the USB. This should be faster for Swap, EPG and recordings. SSDs are relatively cheap these days.

Box will only lock up when it runs out of flash memory. This box seems to have a gig of NAND, so that shouldn't be an issue. Whilst the processor is only running at 450Mhz it should be fine, once there isn't something mad in the image. I am assuming that no 3rd party plugins (TSMedia for example) or skins (SlyK for example) are being used. They are normally the culprits.

It could be the HDD that is causing the issues too. I'd disconnect that temporarily and start afresh.

You mentioned that OpenATV 6.1 above. The latest OpenATV images for this box are 6.3 here

Write down your diseqc port configs so that you dont confuse yourself when starting afresh. Do not download channel lists settings. Scan manually. If you are using picons store them on a USB, not the internal flash.

The information page in the E2 menu will show you the available RAM and NAND Flash available after install.
