Temporary Promotion - What should I do?

A number of employees from the company I work for were sent abroad for a few months leaving spaces in there higher paid team temporarily free. I recently got promoted to fill one of their positions. I was advised that this will be temporary until the they come back. (Approx 8-10 weeks)

I could be completely wrong here but are there laws that would prevent me from being paid the previous lower rate of pay? I’m thinking If i Should perhaps ask for a contract with the new rate of pay?

    (EDIT)

I have already been promised the extra pay for the initial 8-10 week period, my question is if it’s lawful for me to go back to the original pay after this period has finished ?

Maybe look at it as an opportunity ..a chance to gain more senior experience..chance to prove you are capable of more..will stand to you when an actual promotion comes up..

You’re worried about a few extra quid for 2 months???!

Push for extra pay. It's always good not to look weak in these situations.

Can ignore the above after I have seen your edit.

Of course it's lawful to go back to your reduced pay.

This. Much better advice, take the opportunity to learn and develop. Don't worry about money now. Show them how good you are at the job, and let them see you grab the chance.

Your thinking is wrong, your pay isn't being reduced after the secondment as that is your pay. You are just receiving an allowance for the extra work during the 8-10 weeks.
