Tempoary Promotion - What should I do?

A number of employees from the company I work for were sent abroad for a few months leaving spaces in there higher paid team temporarily free. I recently got promoted to fill one of their positions. I was advised that this will be temporary until the they come back. (Approx 8-10 weeks) I could be completely wrong here but…

I could be completely wrong here but are there laws that would prevent me from being paid the previous lower rate of pay? I’m thinking If i Should perhaps ask for a contract with the new rate of pay?
