Mondeo v Avensis (2011)

    Any opinions between a Mondeo (2011) v Avensis (2011)

Mondeo 1.6 TDCI Eco (115k miles on clock)
    Avensis 2.0 D4D (150k miles on clock)

Anyone driving either that can advise on obvious faults to check for at those mileages?

Edging towards the Mondeo as it has a higher spec & lower mileage.

Of those 2 probably the Avensis but in reality neither of them is that desirable.

Keep looking for a 2.0 TDCI Mondeo imo.

    Ms

The Mondeo is the better car and will be nicer to drive. That is not to say the Avensis is bad its just very dull and ordinary.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

As said, find a 2.0 TDCi Mondeo over a 1.6.

Is that mainly because of performance?

Is the reliability of the 1.6 questionable?

Fuel economy & reliability are more important than performance for me in this particular comparison.

Thanks for the replies to date....

Mondeo is a big car so could do with a bit of power even in normal driving and the 2.0 TDCI was relatively reliable.

There isn't an obvious gain to having the 1.6 that I can see.

Edit - at this age - ie this 2011 type era - the Mk 4 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI is pretty much as good as it gets in diesel for normal workhorse daily duty.

It's not perfect - but unlike some others there aren't any deal breaker faults .

The Avensis is still worth a look - it's not the nicest but if you just want A to B transport it's okay .

It's just the Ford is a more comfortable nicer way of doing the same thing really.

Does the 2011 mondeo have a wet & dry belt that needs replacing?
And would this be needed at 115k miles?

I believe the Avensis has a chain that lasts long enough.

Only the 1.8 tdci has the wet belt.
    1.6 and 2.0 don't

If you've the budget a facelift 2012 Avensis in a higher spec might suit.

As said if going mondeo 2.0tdci is the only job.

You need to have your eyes wide open in this market segment as well, lots of rough and ready ex taxi's and ex fleet cars with questionable history knocking about.

2011 Mondeo = very good car

2011 avensis = good too but very dated by then

The Mondeo has dated just as much to be fair. The interior was shockingly dated in places when it was brand new.

Thought they were a lovely car at the time myself, I always liked Ford however

On paper the choice was just in the OP.

But having viewed the various cars, they were eliminated, a 2011 Passat has emerged as the preferred buy..

2011, TDI BMT 2.0 130k, full service history & long NCT test.
Minimal spec but comfy to drive & reviews seem to say good fuel economy too..(and in budget)
