Thinking about buying a 2013/14 CLS AMG, what are the pit falls if any to look out for.

Lovely looking car I had always planned on buying one, test drove a 2017 220d last year was so disappointed it had no power from what I'm used to and the suspension was very hard.

Mercedes 220d engine is very rough sounds like a tractor and very low power at 177 bhp, older 250d in the year you are looking at has a little more bhp. 3 litre engine is much smoother many uk reviews suggest this as the best buy.

I ended up buying an s350d, much better ride quality with air suspension and 258bhp, obviously not in the same price bracket but I don't regret spending the extra money.

Faced that decision yesterday, a cls estate vs e220d. Went e in end as newer engine so smoother and more power.

It Doesnt automatically follow that the newer engine will be smoother or more powerful... if that’s what your after , six cylinder is the way to go

In the previous poster's case it does though. The current E220d is a newer more refined and powerful 4 pot over the older generation 4 pot in the CLS. 6 cylinder diesel CLS and E Class are like hens teeth here.

Plenty of choice in the UK. I have one on my shopping list. They come in a beautiful garnet red which is uber rare, otherwise it's grey, black, silver or white with an equally rare blue thrown in. A red shooting break is what I hope to pick up.

I looked at the CLS too and the 220 is a lot cheaper than than the 320 in the UK and the VRT was another big jump as they are in the higher tax bracket. I think the value in 3.0 218bhp A7’s in the U.K is hard to overlook if your in the market for a car in this category

Yeah the a7 are lovely. I’d agree they are the clever buy. What are the s 350d to tax from like 2013-2014? E750 I think. They are another level up in my opinion from the a7

Thanks for the replies, I like the A7 but they are a bit dates inside.

How about the likes of the below far no. far more impressive and regal in my opinion than the cls. I also prefer the older shapew221 s class to the more recent one

I'd doubt wants to pay 1200 in motor tax either.

If in the market for a S350 & that road tax puts you off, id go for the w222 model from 2014 onwards. Road tax is 390 can complain about that on a 3L v6 with 258bhp.

Always see the S class as an old mans car.

It's only one generation back, the new Audis are a masterpiece with the interior but compared to most other cars, a last generation a7 doesn't look or feel dated although the infotainment system does slightly compared to what's available on even much cheaper machines. Can be upgraded to a much more modern system for about 500 euro though with Google maps /android auto and full smartphone mirroring to bring it up to date.

What about an E class 2 door AMG.

I've just moved from E220d coupe to CLS350d of same year (2015) and the difference in performance is massive. Some pull from V6 and makes driving fun again.
Suprised at the difference to be honest but delighted all the same.
