My father has bought an eGolf, all going well and now he needs a charger installed. He does however have the old style screw in fuse board.

Can anyone let me know what we're in for here, do we need to change the fuse board?

Probably. Off the top of my head they can only take cartridge fuses.

The grant should cover a lot of the cost though. My (RECI) cousin replaced our old fuse board a few years ago and the materials cost less than €100. It took him about 2 hours.

You’ll need to get someone in to asses the wiring. How old is the wiring? Earthing? A few years ago you’d probably get someone to upgrade the board, but not anymore, needs to be certified etc...

You'll need to get the earthing upgraded to your earth spike outside, to your hot press, to your gas boiler (if you have one). The mains cable from your fuse-board to your meter box will probably need to be upgraded to 16sq.
There's a lot of work in upgrading a fuse-board so it won't be cheap unfortunately
