Rear pads not contacting entire disc surface

    Hi all,

I've just replaced my rear discs / pads on an 08 Hyundai i30 last week. Just noticed today that there's strange looking wear. Looks like the entire pad isnt sweeping the disc. Everything feels fine when I'm driving / braking etc.

Calipers were a bit the worse for wear when I changed everything out and I haven't gotten around to giving them a good clean yet. Could that be the problem?
    Cheers

Could it be wrong pads? Did the pads match the ones that came out... same surface area?

And compared to pattern on removed disc?

... so many questions, I know... but just to get you thinking.

I'd say wrong pads are fitted, pads should be filling out the disc wear area, to withing a few mm of the outer edge anyway!

Thanks for the advice. I'd be surprised if the pads weren't correct as I got them from the same shop and all of the other parts they gave me were perfect and I compared them with the old pads and they were identical.

No scoring or any strange looking wear otherwise. Out of curiosity I did some hard braking earlier on and the pad is now contacting about 85 - 90% of the disc. The corrosion was so rough that I had to hammer the shims out. I think the pads are seated a bit too tight as a result.

What brand pads/ discs were fitted? How many kms since fitting?

Clean the mounting surfaces where the pads contact the carrier, if there is a stainless steel plate take it off and clean behind it, there doesn't have to be much interference before the pads won't contact fully or release fully.
If the pads are still tight then file the edges a little and apply some brake grease on those parts.
