Hello, glad to post here you folks are so helpful please check. So this company said to a friend they won't give him the logbook V5C with him when buying the car but will post it to his address (DVLA only posts to UK addresses anyway so it is more complicated).
They said it only takes 2 weeks but DVLA actually could take up to 6 weeks...
And therefore there is a risk of paying penalty on the VRT if late (over 30 days from import) maybe 5 to 10% extra on the total value...
They will only give the V5C/2 (proof of purchase) when buying. What to do?? No idea.... Never done this before.

You are saying they won't give it to him when buying but then say they will?

As per the DVLA website the proper procedure when selling to a buyer who is permanently exporting is to give them the entire V5C with the car when exporting it - https://www.gov.uk/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk.

If they don't want to follow the proper procedure then tell them to keep the car and buy from a dealer who will.

Don't drive away without the V5.
