Seems like something illegal. Either a scam or some sort of price fixing trouble you could get yourself in.

Why not just buy the factory.

It’s not really a working principle.

These fast food companies are all plc/ltd companies. Boards job is to maximise profits, no way in hell they will pay more for goods just to give farmers a dig out.

Is it any more illegal than a dairy co-op...?

They, whoever they are, completely underestimate a lot of things.

So it wants to invest in fast food who are trying to keep their profits as high as possible by keeping their costs down... i can't see this working..

On one hand their share in the fast food outlet will drive up costs due to them costing themselves more money because the beef will cost them more, but that will be ok, because they are getting an extra couple of cents per KG at the factory?

A board of a public company making decisions that are not for the benefit of every shareholder would be in fact breaking the law.
the independent directors would immediately flag this strategy and unless you could prove that it was strategy intended to make the company stronger it would be stopped.

to avoid this you would have to buy the fast food outlet outright and delist it from the exchange.

Only way you could argue this would be a competitive advantage to the fast food chain to advertise ala fair trade coffee that they paid fair price on beef .

I'll give them €5,000. Have to cash my €10,000 cheque first I got from the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. I'll send them that cheque if they send me €5k in cash first.

If we all put in 1.2 million each we could buy McDonald's...

I wonder how much that 1.5 million shares would be worth once it’s announced we are letting our suppliers pick their price.

There's 3 quid in that brainfart, and it all goes to donedeal.

Burger King has a market cap of 106 billion dollars. To gain a controlling stake in the board, €5,000 would have to be lodged by every man, woman and child in Ireland twice over, and that's just for Burger King.

Sure with all this cutting back of beef consumption and suckler farmers there will be no Burger Kings open this time next year.... right!
This time next year BG will be making the same profit ++

So the fast food outlets are going to agree to let this new co-op be a middle man between them and their suppliers? I don't think so.

    Be grand lads.
Kids go back to school next week and they will stop with the silly ideas when they have some homework to do.

I am sure Gav from donedeal is well capable of collecting and investing 400 million correctly. It will be a nice sideline to the horse gallop material he is also selling on donedeal

What is the stuff? Is it something that would usually go to landfill and he is getting paid for it both ways?

I'd be very much for using and strengthening the cooperative systems that we have already in place...... our marts. A lot has tried to be done to ruin them and try and sabotage it as a fair way of selling cattle, especially finished stock.

More avenues need to be explored by mart management for finished stock. I'm talking marketing of our stores for live export. It's a global market. But people can't buy what they dont know is available for sale, its price and quality. We have great strides made in technology but it could be used to market our stock on the hoof to a worldwide audience.
It's either feasible or not then for them to be exported and sold live. If the figures don't stack up, well then we can't be blaming the factories for giving us bad prices.

A mans stock is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it on any given day. All we can do is attract as many potential buyers as possible from near and far. After that the market decides.
