I have a house with an old roof and a few small leaks in it( about 3).I cant seem to find a roofer that will fix them for a realistic price.I got a price off a roofer that advertises online of 1500 euros as he said a scaffolding was required nowadays due to health and safety.I thought that was a bit much and told him so then the price started going down but I felt he was just trying to rip me off so told him to forget about it.The last 2 companies I contacted never returned my calls or e.mails.So If anyone has had a good experience with a roofer maybe they could forward me their details.Thank you

Word of mouth is usually the best way to get work done around your house.
Fly Tippers would be my first Google search.
    Ask around your area.

I almost hired a roofer based on his good Google feedback before I noticed it was all from himself Didn't even set up an account with a different name.

Dunno why so many roofers are dodgy but that seems to be the case.

How many google reviews did he have and of those how many were fake reviews?

I've found it very hard to get a reliable roofer too.

The range of quotes for the same thing is huge.

Plus many of them seem to be related. Genuinely, I've seen three or four vans regularly in one area, just selling you the same thing so you are you really getting value.

I replaced my flat roof completely having been plagued with leaks.

Cost me a few bob but I got it externally insulated at the same time.

It's a great job. The guy was top class too but I don't want to give his name for repairs, as I don't think that's his thing

He stood over his work. It's up about 5 years now. Last year I called to get him to add a roof fan, and he popped out and did it no issues

The thing with roofs is that understandably lads like to do the whole thing rather than inherit a bag of muck someone else ran away from.

Sounds more like a tin roofer.

There are a number of roofing companies whose registered address is a derelict building on Fairview Strand - clearly avoid them.

I had a flat roof replaced by a company called Graydons and was very pleased with their work and general attitude.

They're residing in the Carlow area if anyone has been left with unfinished/outstanding and paid for work.

It's actually painful finding a decent roofer whilst trying to avoid the howya boss white van man with easily replaceable company logos.

I used a fella from Wicklow before and very happy with the work I'll try find his details.

Thank you for your replies. It's not a flat though.I will have a look at flytippers as I have never heard of it before. As for word of mouth that's why I asked here as I have got some good advice here in the past

Yeah I've had similar struggles finding anyone seemingly reliable for some gutter and minor roof repairs.

I usually have a quick look on solocheck to see how long they've been in business (that info is free) and often most of the ones coming up on google are only 1 year!

That Graydons place mentioned above says they are in business 17 years - it's no guarantee but at least you know they don't keep shutting down and opening up under a new name like some of the other chancers around.

On the first page of Google results it says they were struck off the companies register in 2004 and the company dissolved - not sure exactly what that means or why they were struck off...

Huge problem with fake reviews, often just people who made 1 review ever or who if you check their reviews they have 3 or 4 for 'different' roofing companies, often word for word the same review, or reviews from people who appear to live in different countries, it's a minefield!

The giveaway for me these days are people who claim to have branches on the northside and southside, usually quoting fake addresses and very similar phone numbers.

Also be very careful of people who say oh you can only fit XXX type of tile or roofing system there. I wanted roof cladding but guy said ohh no you couldnt put that there it wouldnt work .When pressed on the question of why it would not work he then double backed and said well it might but wouldnt look that nice. . you need slates there... I happen to know it was absolute manure the truth was he had never fitted Roof cladding before and wasnt sure how to do it or didnt have the confidence. As the roof cladding rep had told me my application was PERFECT for their product. their are some roofers who have only ever fitted slates or tiles and wouldnt have a notion about roof cladding systems or wouldnt be interested in fitting them. possibly because they are quicker and cheaper to install possibly?

So the recent weather has lead to a lovely wet patch on my flat roof this morning. Did anyone posting here end up with a good experience with a roofer on the North Side of Dublin?

Roof isn't a traditional felt construction, looks to be a roll out membrane. Thanks.

If you can get Graydons to look at it they will fix it. The problem is they are pretty busy and difficult to get.Which is probably a good sign.I think they are based on the Northside

I would really double check recommendations, etc. I got a company that did an OK job, but wouldn't recommend them as I found their sales tactics terrible. The price kept going up, they would find issues after issues that needed repair, etc. They also charged me for gutter cleaning and fixing but I have a leaking seal and when I got on a ladder I realised they hadn't cleaned the gutters at all. Really pi***ed I was

If you call someone, make sure he looks at every single bit of the roof, not just the leaky part. And that his quote includes everything
