Looking for a new router

    Hi folks,

    We have Eir FTTC.
The F2000 is causing a lot of trouble at home.

What would be a good router replacement for this?
Most of our devices are wifi with about 4 cabled devices.
Note that we have the eir phone line with the F2000 so am guessing this still stays plugged into the F2000.

TP-Link AC1200 is a great router, easy to configure and will auto detect the VDSL settings.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have it connected to eir? If so what way did you connect the wires and does your landline num via VOIP still work?

    Thanks

I didn't test it with VoIP (as I didn't have a landline) but it does easily support it with SIP ALG. Mine was setup with Eir, phone line connected directly to the router, then connect via LAN to do the wizard configuration. It's all very simple.

    Ok am a little confused...

Eir phoneline connected to the tp-link.
    Then?

Where would the phone line be plugged into in this setup?

You sound like a novice user (no offence intended), I would strongly advise not changing the F2000 if you need to keep the VOIP service.

Many thanks for your reply :) No offence taken at all!

I'd like to get a new router. Could I leave the Voip connected to the F2000 as we use it a lot and work my wifi for internet access through a new router?

    Thanks

You dont really need a router, you probabaly need a wireless access point.

    Plenty of different models available.

OP probably wants to change the router as the one that Eir provides causes the connection to drop often and eventually they stop working altogether. Happened to me, got a replacement off Eir and worked again flawlessly for a year until the sane problem erupted again.

Got a new router off amazon and no problems the past 3 years. I can't help you OP with the VoIP as I don't have a landline myself.

Would this work OK with virgin media to boost the hub 3

Do they use same VOIP like Eir?

Why would wmuou want a router to "Boost" another device??

It sounds like you need an access point and not a router .

This from other thread where archer c8 was recommended but seeing if cheaper do the same

Whats the middle ground of best and cheapest for a router to replace the hub 3?

Seems to have a meltdown when a few people using it, especially WIFI and have tried change channels. optimization on/off etc

I want to put virgin media into modern mode etc etc, so boost probably wrong word

Hi I purchased a TP Link AC1200 as I have a Virgin Hub 3 and want a VPN Router. I have had Virgin change my settings to allow me to set the router to modem mode. But I still cannot get the setting on the TP Link to feed me my internet service. No matter what IP address I enter I still on see the Virgin router settings.
I want to flash the TP link router and have DD-WRT firmware to see if that will work.
There are 3 files on the DD-WRT site. Which file do I use to Flash?
Any advice would be gratefully received.
