Would it be ok to plug a fridge and tumble dryer into a double adapter and into a single socket, or would changing single socket to a double be the best thing to do

Try to avoid the use of double adapters, fire hazard. Change socket or use a decent trailing lead with multiple sockets, with a fuse.

Not such a big deal with smaller loads but definitely a bad idea for a tumble dryer.

You would be better with two single socket-outlets rather than one double socket-outlet.

Double socket-outlets are only rated to 20A, whereas a single socket-outlet is 13A per outlet.

    13+13=26 (yes I know I know)

I was just joking tenreds. 2 singles are better than 1 twin but a twin socket is far better than adaptor. Certainly with one of appliances being a dryer.
