Sliding Door latch

I've a sliding door that won't open. It was closed and locked with the latch and key yesterday. Today though the key turns with no issue but the latch will only go up half way and feels like there is very little resistance while moving the latch. There is no way to get the door open at the minute.

Any suggestions as to what might have caused this or how to fix it?

Is the door pvc or aluminium.also maybe some pictures of the door would help.as there is many different types of locking mechanisms for these doors

It's an aluminium door. Hopefully I've attached a picture of the handle.

Ok it is a very old type lock you have made by yale.unfortunately the no longer make the lock.there is a replacement available that with some work can be retro fitted into the door. The last one I fitted for a customer worked out perfectly but was a lot of work.what has happened is the inner workings of the locking mechanism have broken.the biggest challenge is to get the door open.my advice is if it is a door you don't use alot lock the door and forget about it for now.
