Hi. I bought a 2001 clk with badly worn steering wheel. I managed to clean the sticky thumb controls with soap and water. Does anyone know someone who can refurbish a worn steering wheel on my car please? I’m in Dublin/ Meath area.

Royal Steering Wheels in the UK is where I got my BMW wheel done. You pay a deposit, they send you a replacement, you swap all the controls, airbag etc onto the new one and send them back your old one. Then they refund your deposit.

There's also a crowd in Kilkenny called Autostyle who do it but you'll be without your steering wheel for a few days.

Will look into both. Thanks a lot!

How much did you pay royal steering wheels for the work done?

I can't remember as it was over 2 years ago but every wheel is different.

As it happens I sent Royal Steering Wheels a wheel last week. I have not had it back yet, but his work looks great. Communication with him has been excellent too. The price to cover the wheel in the attached pic in brown leather is £155, and £17 for postage.

Turnaround is 1 week, but he is on leave this week. I will post some pics of the end result when I get it back.

Autostyle quoted "between €200-€260" to do it.

I will second the fact that Royal Steering Wheels have superb communication. If I emailed him, he always replied quite fast.

Tnx guys. After quite an exhaustive search, i came across this company called Trimtech. They're based in Swords. Gave me a provisional quote of 180eu to refurb Steering wheel. Anyone dealt with them before?

They seem to be a crash repair company. No sign of any steering wheel retrim work on their website.

TBH they are looking pretty much the same price as Royal Steering Wheels. I would be inclined to have a specialist do it.

For reference, this is what I received from Royal Steering Wheels:

It's the basic skeleton of the wheel to which I added all the electrical gubbins and plastic trim to make this:
