Where is the best place to buy alloys these days and what are some brands to consider and also avoid?

What car is it for? If you're looking for aftermarket wheels, then so much of this will depend on the style you like really. Style, size and whether or not they fit your particular car are some factors (materials they're made from is important too). As for brands, again there's tonnes, BBS are a favourite of mine. There are good deals to be had from places in the UK given the sterling rates.

I've used these guys in the past:

It's for a 2014 Mazda 6. Looking for 18 inch alloys and tires.

Yeah BBS are one of the brands I know but tons on the website I've never heard of.

Are there any brands to avoid? I see some wheels for 80- 100 euro a wheel which seem very cheap so I am assuming they are crap.

I’d stick with a set of OE Mazda 18/19” wheels for that car. Aftermarket wheels just dont suit sedate family saloons.

Okay let's assume it's for a Skyline or similar, where would you buy from and what brands?

I have bought from Motorsport and Spares in Ballymena. Gents to deal with and usually have a decent selection.

Bit of a trek up is the only downside.

Thanks, was on their website there they seem to have a decent selection. I was hoping to get them delivered or is it best to have them installed and balanced by a garage?

Whats your budget? Personally id go with a Japanese brand , their styles seem to suit the mazda 6 well. The nicest wheels ive seen in the 6 has definitely been from Rays , they are expensive though but they are forged and are some of the lightest wheels in the world depending on sizes.

www.rimstyle.com or www.felgenoutlet.com used both no problems with great selections!

I used felgenoutlet.com a while back for some new alloys for the MX-5, very satisfied with both the product and the service. At the time they were the cheapest option and also had by far the greatest selection.

I like the Volk/Rays TE37 but they're expensive. The BBS SR and CI-R. OZ Superturismo GT, Leggers or Omnia.

Seal them with a ceramic coating like Carpro Dlux or similar, makes life so much easier.

1500 with tyres is limiting to the cheaper brands and possibly ****e tyres as well.

Is there anything else done to it? If not, I'd just go with the OEM ones as they suit the car quite well.

    How so?

I can get a set of BBS SR wheels with Michelin tyres for under 1500. I would have thought that's a high quality combination?

That seems awful cheap for a set of BBS in 18's. They're generally an expensive wheel to get, even second hand.

I'd still be inclined to stick with the oem wheels, not a fan of aftermarket wheels on big family cars, then again that's just me.
