Laptop Upgrade (6/800 euro)

Hi all,

Using a HP 250 G5 with I5 and 8GB RAM for last 3 years, however it's beginning to slow down. Also, using video editing software has become painfully slow.

I have been looking for something to upgrade to with a better graphics card to do some gaming + video editiing. (this has Intel HD 520) ortabanilty and Battery life would be a bonus too.

However I have been tempted to see if I formatted the pc would performance improve, to see if I could get another year or two out of it?

newer i5 mobile chips (like the 8250u onwards) are quad-core unlike the 2-core one that you have so it would be easily a 50% boost for something like video editing.

has it got an ssd drive in it?

if not, replacing a spinning hdd with one (they are now cheap) would make a huge difference for only 40 to 50 euro for a 480gb ssd.

( I have this one and it has run fine for over a year)

if you want battery life and gaming (e.g. discrete graphics card) then that doesn't work as the discrete gpu eats battery.

otherwise for something new this is great value for £400 . reliable uk site that delivers to Ireland

battery life is a bit of weak point on it tho - about 5 hours real-world

Yeah its an HDD, maybe i'll do that to get a few extra years out of it....

there is free software (Macrium Reflect Free v7 recommended) to do this but you're better off reinstalling windows on the new ssd imo

if you want to be able to access the old hdd you'll need a case holder for it

(this will also be required if you want to transfer windows fully instead of reinstalling)
