Min u values

    Do the wall minimum u values have to be met? Can there be a scenario where the u value is close but above the minimum and other parts of the house performance compensate?

    Yes they have to be met. Keep in mind that insulation saves you money and provides a more comfortable environment so you should be looking to exceed the minimum and not trying to find a way to build less than the regulations.

    They must be met at a minimum but should be exceeded where possible.

    I don’t buy a car and say, I’ll just take ABS on the front left wheel please.

    in the building regulations they are not the minimum u values that are quoted they are the maximum u values that are permitted .the lower the u value the better the insulation layer you have incorporated . so you can go as low as you like but not above them
