Looking at 4x4 options. As a rule of thumb what is the difference between taxing a 15 reg 2.2 Amorak commercially v privately?

Taxing it privately will mean it's based on engine size AFAIK.

Will be based on the old system of engine CC, so 700 odd euro I think?

Also just be careful taxing a commercial privately, insuring a commercial vechile with private tax can be a nightmare.

    In what sense exactly?

Are all the land rovers for example on the roads, insured and taxed commercially or privately?

Anyone that’s classed as commercial will be taxed and insured as commercial (well the vast vast majority anyway).

That would really just apply to the discovery and defender though. Most of the Range Rover variants are classed as passenger models so will be private tax and insurance. On the other hand all crew-cabs are classed as commercial.

Most discovery’s in the last few years were crewcab though.

Yeah sorry I should have been clearer, I meant any pickups like amarok, Hilux etc are all commercial.

Anything that is commercial and has back seats like discoverys, landcriuser is classed as a crew-can too as you say. I was just highlighting to that there are many 4x4s classed as passenger and many classed as commercial (either 2 seat of 5 seat) but there are no pickups classed as passenger.

All those Crewcabs are taxed, insured and tested commercial (Ableit all of them used, for the most part, privately).

You’ll be buying an Amarok which is a commercial vehicle, requiring a commercial test and presumably trying to insure it and tax it as a private vehicle. I’m just stating it because it’s more than likely only and issue you’ll encounter after you’ve already bought it.

Even taxing it commercially as a crewcab can be a pain in the hole is its own right also.

    Thanks all

Looks like a crewcab will be beyond me

Which of the range rover variants would fall in under non commercial?

The vast majority of all Range rovers would be non commercial.

Didn't Land Rover offer a Discovery "Business Edition" which was an above board 4 seater crew cab.

Yeah they did, this is the Discovery we are taking about here when we are mentioning commercial Discovery’s. It was a 5 seater though not 4 and while it was available everyone bought it over the passenger one as it was cheaper to buy (lower vrt) and cheaper to tax (commercial). If you were vat registered it was cheaper again as the vat could be reclaimed.

There was also a VW touraeg, landcruiser and Pajero all sold officially as business models before the government decided to feck it all up by stopping it being allowed.

The exact same tax implications will apply to those but being a 3.0 you’ll be paying 1500 odd road tax

    The disco was 5 seater
Only the Ford Kuga was 4 seater, to get around capacity measurements. Kuga had 5 seats though just 4 belts.
