I was just watching that video when something flashed by and caught my eye ...

I take it that's the PHEV version, but 125km electric range sounds a little too good to be true, or am I getting hold of the wrong end of the stick?

No, well spotted. The battery in the PHEV is 8.9kWh, not sure how much of that is available, but I can't see the range being much more than about 50km. Afaik, there is no increase in battery capacity planned for next year.

Out of the 3 it has to be the PHEV. They must be putting in a bigger battery for the new model and just displayed the most optimistic figure they could for the promo video.

Doubling the usable capacity and driving it in a city might manage 125km although it does seem too good even at that.

Did a quick google, but can't find anything on a bigger battery for the 2020 Ioniq PHEV

    Link to that video, Alun?

The “new” Ioniq looks just like the old one. It’s a very mild facelift, I cannot help but think Hyundai have missed a trick with the Ioniq. It’s clearly a very good, capable car but the marketing of it is so dull. A few design flashes here and there, a 2nd brighter interior option and it could target the poor mans Tesla market.

    Its not completely impossible

    15kWh would get that range

Mercedes, BMW, VW are all putting that size battery into 2020 PHEVs

Ioniq BEV would do 14-15kWh/100km on the motorway. If you allow less efficiency due to more complex drivetrain losses and (probably) more weight then you could expect about 80-100km for 15kWh net capacity
    Very good!

They crapped it up, it charges slower than the outgoing one (a nuance of using the 39kWh pack from the kona, which has lower pack voltage)
