Need Help Setting Up Home Cinema System

Long story, but I hope somebody can help.

About 10 years ago, I bought a Philips HTS335W Home Theatre System and it still worked fine. I had the following setup.
Cable TV (Virgin) with HDMI connection to TV
Home Theatre system with Scart connection to TV
To watch DVDs, I simply changed the input device

The TV went bust recently and I bought a new Panasonic TX-49FX550B 49in TV

However, I now have no Scart connection to the TV. I have a HDMI connecting the DVD player to the TV and it works fine - EXCEPT, when I play a movie, the TV speaker is used and not the cinema system speakers.

I'm not very good at audio/visual and I'm trying to understand what controls whether the TV speaker should be used or when the cinema speakers should be used.

For information, I bought a Scart to HDMI converter on Amazon. Not sure if I did the right thing.

You may not have scart but I bet you have some composite video connector. Do you have a red white yellow connecotrs?

The trouble with HDMI to scart is that HDMI is digital and scart is analog.

    Forget about the scart,
    Not used anymore.
Why not use the HDMI out of the Philips HTS335W?

HDMI wasn't available 10 years ago. it was introduced from late 2002.

I do indeed. My problem is that the dvd player and the tv are not close to each other. I have wall connectors behind the dvd player and the HDMI/scart to the tv are cabled under the floor. The system also has wireless for the rear speakers. Unusual, I know, but direct cabling to the TV is not an option.

Use a scart to composite adapter to give you the same setup you had before

Check the settings of the DVD and see if there is a setting to play the audio via HDMI.

My setup, you can choose to have the video play via one media, and the audio via another.
