Will a diesel pass the NCT without a backbox?

    Hi
The black-box broke at the weld and as a temporary repair at the time I had a friend weld a piece of pipe in its place.
The car is not louder at idle or when driving. I have the NCT coming up soon and have a few bits to sort, I am really hoping a black box is not on that list.

    Thanks

From the NCT manual (p. 94) it is a major defect:

Silencer (b). Any exhaust component is damaged, incorrectly fitted missing or not functioning

Exhaust Assembly (f). Any part of the noise suppression system (including silencer and exhaust pipe) is loose, damaged, incorrectly fitted, missing or obviously modified(2)
in a way that would adversely affect the noise levels.
