I got a letter from RSA today saying that 3 penalty points I got a while back have been removed following a request from gards. No other information given.

I didn't challenge the points or anything and paid the money and my license got the penalty points..

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

I hadnt even thought about that until I phoned the guards. Refund will be issued...

I've contacted my insurance company as the risk for my two renewals was calculated with me having 3 penalty points. Initially I was getting the run around but when I have the letter from the guards with the cheque I will send it to them and Im hoping they can calculate the difference in the risk and refund.

The guard told me that there was ap problem between the speed limit on the road versus what they were told it was. To be honest doesn;t make much sense as the speed i was supposed to be caught at was above 100 and it definitely wasn't a motor way.. but I phoned RSA just to check and sure enough no points are on my license..

Lotto is up at 10 million, I'd be grabbing a ticket if I was you, sounds like it's your lucky week!

Do update with what the insurance company say. I'd be interested to hear if they decrease and refund any extra premium.

Chances are that the speed limit signs were changed but not enacted into bye law so therefore the new signed speed limit wasnt valid.Someone else could have easily challenged it and so any prosectuctions were not legal. It happened very close to where I live.
Co Co put up new speed signs....Speed van appears....Catches a good few. Someone challenges the new limit which hasnt been enacted in bye law....penalty points removed and fines refunded.

The stretch of road a national road was 100 and when I was caught I was apparently doing 111. The road now is 80 and signs are changed to that... Doesn't make much sense but sure whatever I've a clean license again and can enjoy being ripped off a bit less come renewal..

100 would be the default under the act, 80 is a "special speed limit" (unless its built up then 50 is default).

It does sound like they were in the process of transitioning to a special, FCPNs issued at later dates may have been unfair but they've revoked a larger date range than required - maybe due to not knowing when works were completed on signage.

Got the letter from na gardai with refund based on a review of this detection on receipt of correspondence from Westmeath county council. No specifics about what this letter said though but the decision was taken to expunge points.

Happy days. Sent a copy of the letter along with the RSA points removal letter to Allianz asking for a refund of the difference . Lets see

The magic algorithm that makes up the quotes is anyones guess! Based on your examples ages is taken into consideration but maybe the size of car is also?

If I got 160 back I'd be delighted.

They calculate it on a % of the initial quotation. Anything back is a result.
Edit. I deleted my last post because I misread yours ;)
