Ah the UK, a glorious cesspit of PC-gone-too-far.

I'm ok with trying to get rid of gender stereotypes. Helps nobody

About time. The stereotyping of men had gone too far, sick of it.

Bring back the days of some dude dressed in black breaking into a woman’s hotel room through the window so he could leave a box of Milk Tray on her bed.

    who watches adverts anymore?

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

About time they banned something trashing men.

It's usually anything goes with how men are portrayed in media in general because of how its laughed off.

I don't like the way men are portrayed as idiots in adds, but I don't like this banning them, its harmless at the end of the day.
Call them out for what they are - trash.

    Just like that Gillette add.

Generally I either switch the channel or hit the mute button when the ads come on so I haven't seen these, but it came on the news a few minutes ago so that's how I know them. I genuinely did not see anything that would "stereotype" either sex from these ads. But the UK is an absolute basket case when it comes to PC things like this.

Once it starts people will find objection in everything.

Men have been depicted as idiots for a long time now in ads in fairness.

Thin edge of a wedge though if such harmless stuff gets banned.
    PC gone crazy?

It’s not political correctness gone crazy, it’s political correctness full stop. Your own post is a good example of it too in suggesting that men have been depicted as idiots for a long time now in ads. Yes they have. They have also been depicted as heroes in advertising and the media for even longer. The same is true of women. Advertisers tend to use stereotypes for comedic effect, that’s why they tend to work so well. Because in reality rational and reasonable people which are by far the majority of people know well that these portrayals are for comedic effect, the same way as portrayals of men and women as heroes are for an aspirational effect. The whole point is to entice consumers of either gender to buy the product.

It’s incredibly silly, but I don’t imagine it will make a whole pile of difference either tbh. If it means I see less advertisements for feminine hygiene products that’s a good thing in my view, even though now I think of it I’d almost be curious to see how they would pitch feminine hygiene products to men...

    I said ‘almost’ :pac:

The fookwits here policing advertising can't even make the term 'unlimited' illegal in adverts where there actually is a limit, basic fooking English, basic fooking sense, tools.
Not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent.

No woman in her right mind wants a man breaking into her bedroom with a box of Milk Tray these days.

Cadbury have ruined Milk Tray, he shouldn't be wasting his money on that sh*te.

They could start with the 'skewed negative reality' adverts such as Jillette, which hopefully never sees the light of screen again.
Actually this is very likely, as P&G count their $8bn write-down along with a profit-warning after their white male hate ad campaign.

Hate those ads with a passion, however, I don't agree with banning things, if a company wants to show men, or women, in a poor light in order to sell a product, then so be it. People can just either buy their products or service, or avoid them should they feel that strongly about it.

For example, the Gillette advert annoyed me and so for the first time in my life I bought Wilkinson Sword blades, Hydro 5, and cut the face off myself. I may have looked like I had a row with Edward Scissorhands but dammit I had my principals.

Seriously though, unless an advert is deemed irresponsible, like alcohol aimed at children, then I don't agree with bans.

100%, I'd want Lindt or Milka!

Can't wait to see the gender neutral Tampax ads.

Surely this gender nonsense will stop soon.

Swedish ISP "Bahnhof" recently got a job advert criticised by the PC brigade.

In the ad, the boyfriend is labeled “You,” his girlfriend is “Your current workplace,” and the red woman is “Bahnhof.”

    So they responded with

Harmful stereotyping rather than neutral I believe.
Yer man with the Milk Tray would be banned presumably on the grounds men have to be heros or something.
It's a can of worms and a license for crazy to prosper.

Indeed and I do understand the frustration and annoyance, lord knows I had enough rants myself on Boards over the years about one advert or another but imo, agreeing with such bans is just centrists (and those who maybe right leaning) lowering ourselves to the the patheticness of the left and wanting our world socially engineered just so we're not offended too.

For example, I seen a billboard advert at the weekend that stopped me dead in my tracks (I actually took a photo of it - will upload it if anyone is interested) as I just knew if it were the other way around, gender-wise, it'd have been banned almost as quickly as it appeared. The left has that kind of power in our society, the Hunky Dory ad comes to mind, but the right (for want of a better term) not near as much, if at all.

Much rather see such ads become socially unacceptable in an organic way rather than for pc reasons though. Guess it says something about society when ads belittling either sex results in sales but still and all, they should just no longer get made as a result of them becoming unpalatable to consumers rather than the powers that be demanding it.

True actually i am not one for banning things in general its just interesting to see attention finally given to situations such as this. Sure look there are so many examples in the media alone of how men are shown to be thick useless bastards and women are superhuman so we would never get around to even trying to ban them all!!!
