    Hello,

How much should I expect to have a 10metre 16 or 32 amp line run out of the consumer unit?

Im supply the charger unit but the electricians associated with the complex is quoting 850 euro plus VAT to run the line, install the charger, "commission and supply a cert" for it.

I know that's excessive, but it's by how much?

    Thanks

Yeah I wouldn't mind knowing as well I have asked a couple of electricians how much it would be to put a outdoor socket on our wall rated at 16/ 32 amp they give me a price of abut €200-300 however as soon as I mention that I need a cert signed for the grant they put price up to €600.

Only difference between a 16 amp and 32 amp is the thickness of the cable usually the thicker cable is 15-20% more per meter. They justify it thats its a lot more administration work. Not sure if this is bolony or not they just have to sign a piece of paper that I give them.

Depends on the run really. Do they have to dig trenches or is it attic work etc. Impossible to really answer it. What you really need to do is get multiple quotes to see if someone is bluffing or not.

If it was an easy run with no digging or SWA cable etc expect at least €350 for it. The cert and associated paperwork is time and money to them so that drives it up.

For €850+Vat it must be complicated in some way or maybe he thinks you're loaded! :p

It's an excessively simple run. It's in an apartment complex and I've been given grant approval due to how it's been wired. I think my car spot is less than a 5m cable run.

So, its a pedestal install? Does that suggest there is ground digging required? That would be alot more work than say a unit mounted on the external wall of a house. Can you clarify?

Are you tied to using this electrician or can you get who you like? Get more quotes would be my first step as he is unlikely to do a u-turn on his price now as that would be admitting he was ridin' ya!

It's an underground car park and there are wiring channels suspended from the ceiling. The distribution board is beside the parking spot. It's a wall mounted install.

Ah right, pulling the piss so!

Anything <€350 would be in the right ball park unless you can get a certified spark that is a friend or relative to do you a favour.

One other gotcha.... any chance he is pricing in a priority switch and/or SWA cable. Both of those would drive up cost by several hundred.

There is no mention of it. There is no electric showers, if that's where you're coming from.

    350 is much nicer haha
