BMW 520 timing chain

    Hi All -

    Just bought a 2010 520D.

It has 200k km on the clock.

Confirmed with BMW that both timing chains were replaced by BMW in 2015 (and 85k kms ago) as part of a recall.

Does that mean that these should no longer fail or do the replacement chains need to be looked at to any advised service interval?

Frank Keane BMW do a diagnostic test for 250 euro but would obviously like to avoid this if already having chains done means no need to worry.

    Thanks!

    Darragh

The chain design was modified to allow for better oil circulation, do annual oil changes (not BMW intervals), and you should be fine. Otherwise just listen for the rattle, if you keep a BMWSH they will most likely replace it again if it fails.
