142/151 VW Tiguan advice

Hi all,

I'm looking to a get a 142/151 VW Tiguan for my wife in the UK in the next few weeks (2.0 diesel Match model).

All in inc VRT, its standing me about €13500 which seems decent value. There are a few out there.

I intend getting a RAC check done on it before I travel.

I know that there are a few VW followers here. Is there anything in particular that I should look out for?

That age of car will have the EA189 engine, there is perceived upshots and downshots to this, possibly best to form your own opinion.

They are generally reliable. Parking brake buttons fail a good bit in them, you'd know by the feel of the switch. They are a typical VW other than that, so suspension wear is common, uneven tyre wear is usually a give away of that.

Interestingly, the one that I have a particular interest in has the following on the MOT checker for its MOT done in June:

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Front Shock absorbers light misting of oil or has limited damping effect (5.3.2 (b))

I haven't contacted the garage yet as I'm only beginning to look but would that concern you?

I can’t offer any help but €13,500 all in for this car seems like a great deal, best of luck with it.

Edit: how much is the VRT?

Is there a big difference between the 2 that would make you plump for one over the other?

My FIL had a 138bhp and it was 2010, I’d imagine the 150 is the newer generation engine?

About €2700.

138bhp under £10k stg. 148bhp going for about £10700 stg but havent looked at VRT on that as only noticed 148bhp today.

Yeah the 140bhp was the older engine, the 150bhp is the newer engine that appeared in 2015 and was carried over to the current Tiguan model. The 150bhp is more fuel efficient with lower emissions and wasn't affected by the dieselgate software.

All day. The newer EA288 is far more reliable. The older engine is prone to injector and EGR cooler issues, neither of which are cheap fixes, the newer engine doesn't see these issues, or at least in such high volumes.
