I am hoping to repaint a door. The door is at least 60yrs old. Painted white originally. A lot of marks on it. How do I go about repainting it. I will be painting it white again.

Any suggestions as how to sand the grooves in the architrave around the door.

Mach Two; I did a similar door and ~ not trying to sound funny, but ~ I used sandpaper. Like, literally just folded a bit of sandpaper and went to town with it.

It's only one door, right? So, take ye time. Show it a bit of love. Create something ye can be proud of yeself about ;)

The soft sponge sanding pads are good for sanding moulding's, or better again is Abranet,

Depends on whether the existing paint is sound and the surface smooth. If so, you only need to prep it so as to provide a "key" (i.e. grip) for the new paint.

ESP (easy surface prep) is a wipe on chemical which provides such grip, without the need for elbow grease).

After that a good primer like BIN will provide an excellent foundation.

If the paint is flaking then thats another matter.

Thanks to everyone for here replies. It's only one door for the moment. I have 4 other doors the same as this one. I am working with the sand paper on the grooves. Very tedious but getting there. I ordered a cheap sander off Amazon also. That will help.

The existing paint is very good on all the doors. So that will be a big help. It is very hard to get in to the grooves though.

Try a medium grade wire wool for the archs

It’s tedious but will be worth it in the end
