    Hey,

I just renewed my license and spotted that it has the Motorbike category A marked as something I have on it.
I didnt have this before and havent done any of the Motorbike training/tests

My brother said one of his friends also had this happen to them recently.

Have the rules for bikes changed or something? Or just a coincidence that it happend to two people?

EDIT: I assume its in error as I see the documents for all the training and prerequisites are still on the rsa site.

Think I should call to get another license with it removed?

Not often you get something 'for free' as it where, I'd say nothing. I got my Bus License recently and it came with the trailer license too.

    Why bother getting it removed?
My mother now in her 80s had a driving licence for articulated trucks.
She never drove anything in her life.

I suppose I could see myself wanting to get a bike at some point and dont want there to be a load of hassle as I didnt get the license properly

IMO you shpukd keep it as it is a bit of effort to go and get it added.

That said, if you have never ridden a motorbike I would strongly advise doing the IBT. It will give you a good practical introduction to biking.

Mick Finlay of Road training.ie is a great instructor.

100% I would do the training if going for it anyway. I know bikes are a completly different beast to driving

If you already have C+E (articulated truck) prior to passing the bus test you will get bus + trailer with it. I have it.

Does it have code 79.03 written beside it in box 12?

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

cant find it now, but when i renewed my old drivers license last month, came across a bit in ndls where it said if you had your drivers license passed before some date years ago, you could add certain categories of motorbike to license without a test.
I did that, license now has 79.03 under A which means i can drive am Restricted to tricycles, also has AM so thats a moped?

Make sure the A is not for just a Trike, not full bike licence, check other side of licence to see,a friend of mine changed his licence last month, he thought same thing, check small print, a garda will.

When I changed my UK licence over to Irish recently I had this added also, but looked up the code beside it and it’s just for trikes :(

All licence holders who have held a full car licence since Jan 2013 are now entitled to a A (79.03) upon renewal - meaning you can drive a tricycle bike only.

Mystery solved guys. Didnt even notice the code at the end. Thanks for the input

Hmmm, is this a new thing? I renewed onto my third license a few months back and I don't have it.

If you just replaced (rather than renewed) the licence, the A 79.03 wouldn't have gone on. But if you licence was issued before 2013, you should be covered to drive a trike.

No, mine was a renewal. Passed the car test 20 years ago this year!

I would have presumed that I was covered to drive a trike on a B license anyway
