Upgrade for more space

I currently have a Opel insignia but need to trade it in as with 2 small kids the boot space is becoming very limited and I am looking at something that has more space but not sure to go down the estate route or SUV route.

I have never had a suv before so more inclined towards one of these now

    What would peoples opinion be on the likes of;
    Kia Sportage
    Kia Sorento
    Hyundai Tucson
    Ford Kuga
    Skoda kodiaq

That’s just the bit of research I have done so far I would be buying second hand.

Forget about an suv, boot space is very limited.

Skoda superb estate or saloon may be a good option.

If you need space than the likes of a Superb estate is the way to go

Insignia has a good sized boot so a 7 seater suv would do well if you keep the back seats folded. Otherwise your into octavia or superb territory for bigger boots.

don't rule out traditional people carriers, great room in the boot, not very glamorous but reeally useable space.
I am often very surprised by the tiny boot on an otherwise huge joloppy of an SUV. also, high boot entrances make them tougher to use.

Just give in, stop sucking in that gut, be a dad!

    my life is pain

Sportage, Kuga etc. do have smallish boots. However, you must never have been in a Sorrento. I had two of these, boot space is absolutely massive and also importantly very usable and easy for getting large things in and out. Santa Fe would be fairly big too as would a Kodiaq in 5 seat config.

They have good space, but not as much as you'd think. I have contemplated a sorrento myself, but boot space when rear seats were being used, was no more than a standard estate.

Superb estate would have substantially more space for a lot less money

If you really want an SUV, and you want significant boot space, you'll likely need to go for a 7 seat SUV and fold the 2 back seats down.

Otherwise, estate is the way to go.

Are the Skoda superb estate hard to come by ?

I see a lot of families seem to have sportage-Tucson- quasquai etc just wondering if it’s for the space ?

They aren't hard to come by. If you're willing to import you'll have a decent selection.

The benefit of the SUV type cars is the height, which makes getting kids in and out a bit easier on the back. But the boots in those crossovers is deceptively small. I guess many people don't realise this, or they don't really want lots of space, or they REALLY want an SUV. They're also pretty trendy these days, especially as a car for mums.

If space is your main priority then an estate won't be beaten.

...except by a popemobile..Peugeot Rifter, Citroen Berlingo, Fiat Doblo, Opel Combo...that kinda thing.

If you can live with the looks there's nothing more practical, spacious or versatile.

What would be similar comparison with the Skoda superb estate ?
Would the Hyundai i40 or Kia Optima to name 2 models be good comparisons or what are they like ?

The boot space in all cars is measured in litres, while this doesn't always indicate the practicality it gives a very good idea.
