What do you mean by FTA? My understanding is that Free To Air is a general term than encompasses Saorview, Freeview, Freesat, and Saorsat. You should be able to get any of those, depending on location.

    there's differences I think.

A Freesat box will support basic FTA, but not the other way around.

On a freesat box Freesat channels are limited, have predefined channel numbers, have a full 7-day EPG and on PVRs have dynamic progam time recording and series link. They also auto-retune each night if channel frequencies change.

FTA has now/next programs at best, no series link and if a program time changes you could miss it with a PVR. You will have to retune regularly.

I would always choose Freesat over FTA

Freesat is a branded product, a joint venture between ITV and BBC. Their business is selling Freesat branded set top boxes and getting their software integrated into TVs.

Oh I thought you meant the range of channels available. There's no difference from that point of view, but if you want a proper EPG easily the product normally has to be branded SaorX or FreeX or whatever.

Can I ask you, Is there any particular reason you are running your TV from a PC ?

And is there any reason that you are using Hauppauge Gear ? That model is from a good few years back.

If the answer to the first question is about decoding 4:2:2 feeds you'll need a fast PC and you should be looking at the TBS products if its 422 that you want to intercept.

    https://www.tbsdtv.com/products/

Software wise there are a variety of dvb products out there. I couldn't recommend one as I don't use a PCI tuner. Ask dxhound2005. He uses a TBS tuner card for feeds.

    ok thanks

well i already have a combo box, this is just to give me an option to watch tv on the pc if needed,i don't even know what intercept means in this case :)

i like hauppauge stuff, had a few of their products now and never any problem but if there's something better and does the same thing as this one id like to know about it

this card does what i need though

Intercept means receive, nothing more. The broadcasters use uplinks for sports events and concerts etc on non traditional satellite positions. They can be received FTA with the right equipment. They are full HD as distinct from what may be broadcast say on Saorview and often have a version that is clean of all graphics.

You say you have a combo box. What model is it ? Nearly all E2 boxes are receivable via your internal network and are playable using a browser and VLC. This assumes your "combo box" is connected to your wifi.

    ok thanks

the box is a Triax TSC114, not connected to wifi

Thats only a bog standard combo as using one here with a 2tb hardrive and wired lan for the extras.
You would need a better supported box to do more.
